Take vocabulary and conjugation quizzes

Pick one or two languages to learn, then take vocabulary quizzes on more than 7,000 words across 36 themes, from food and travel to law and technology, each with its own example sentence and its own recording, or conjugation quizzes, with about a hundred verbs across eight to ten tenses. Work in either direction, out of your own language or into it, picking from several answers to start with or typing yours out for a harder run.

One of 36 themes, a difficulty, a direction. Answer by picking from four options or by typing the word. Whatever you miss comes back, and the app serves you first what you know least. A quiz is 10 to 15 words, five minutes.

Every word carries a level from 0 to 5, per language. Mark the ones you already know and they stop coming up. The Learn tab shows the whole catalogue as a grid, up to three languages side by side.

Revising for an exam? Build a list of exactly the words you need, up to three lists of 200, and practise only those, alone or in a challenge. Conjugation has no equivalent.

About a hundred verbs per language, eight to ten tenses. Choose the tenses, then the verbs: all of them, the irregulars, the regulars, or a single group. A card gives you a pronoun and an infinitive; you pick the right form or type it.

The Learn tab also holds the full tables, with a verb search. Open a verb, tap a form to hear it and read its example sentence, translated.

Conjugation has its own progress, counted separately: a level from 0 to 5 per verb and per tense. Its badges are three tense families, past, present and future. Trophies count both.

Learning a foreign language is hard for some people, and I am one of them. My answer is to practise regularly, to keep my memory sharp. But I had no tool other than a notebook to revise vocabulary, work through conjugation drills and write down grammar rules. The apps I tried felt either too slow or too complicated.

So I built Voc'iz over my summer holidays, to revise easily and learn new words in the languages I am learning: English, Spanish and Portuguese. It started as a personal project. I use it every day, so I opened it to everyone. Today Voc'iz is free and has no ads. It is not a company: a paid version is not on the table. If that ever changes, I will say so plainly.
